The Chicago Air & Water Show One of our favorite free events every year in Chicago is the Chicago Air & Water Show. Held along the Chicago Lakefront between Navy Pier and Fullerton Ave it has to be seen to be believed.
There will be military jets zooming between the high-rises of Chicago's Skyline. Parachutes that appear as tiny dots falling to earth at hundreds of miles an hour before pulling their chutes and making pinpoint landing on North Ave. Beach. Small stunt planes will be doing acrobatic moves that will make you dizzy. There will also be people watching galore. The headliners will be the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
The festivities are officially Saturday Aug 20 and Sunday Aug. 21, from 10 am until 3 pm. The best day to watch however is the practice day that Friday. Most of the acts will appear but instead of hundreds of thousands of people there only be a few hundred locals that are in the know and tourist that stumble upon it. You can even see the Thunderbirds going through their paces on Thursday.
You can bring your own food and drinks, alcohol is not allowed. Make sure to bring something to sit on, seating is very limited. Also make sure you have sunscreen because there is almost no shade to be found.
